Four sites of the Séché Environnement Group acknowledged with Safety Awards for their long-term results in health and safety at work

For the first time, the Séché Environnement Group has handed out the Safety Awards to four of its French sites in recognition of their long-term results in health and safety at work. This unprecedented event forms part of a safety culture drive that involves all employees, on a daily basis and at all levels, in the prevention of occupational risks. The goal is to move towards zero accidents.

THE FIRST SAFETY AWARDS

On 21 September, at a seminar attended by all of the Séché Environnement Group’s operations directors, CEO Maxime Séché commended four sites on their excellent and long-term results in health and safety at work.

THE LIST OF WINNERS

Speichim Beaufort for 14 years with no Work-Related Accidents with Absence (WRAA)

Séché Eco Industrie La Dominelais for 10 years with no WRAA

Triadis Saint-Alban for 4 years with no WRAA

Speichim Mourenx for 3 years with no WRAA

The directors of the sites were extremely proud to receive the awards, a sentiment shared by the Management and the entire QHS2E team (Quality, Health, Safety, Environment and Energy), which strives every day to prevent occupational risks on all of the Group’s industrial sites and construction sites.

These first Safety Awards were held as part of the VITAL project, which aims to enhance the safety culture and move towards zero accidents on all Group sites. They recognize everyone’s work and involvement to achieve an increasingly safe working environment.

INSTILLING A SAFETY CULTURE WITHIN THE GROUP

Developing the safety culture on each site, within each team and in all positions, is the daily task of the managerssafety coordinatorsheads of HSEQ and prevention officers. Aside from the regulatory aspect in terms of health and safety, every individual carries out important guidance work in the field to identify risks and ensure that the right habits are adopted. „You have to go into the field, understand our employees‘ work and guide them towards risk awareness,“ says Karin Mistchouk.

„Safety is a culture, a state of mind. There’s no letup, it’s a marathon.“

Karin Mistchouk, QHS2E Director

The Group’s team of prevention officers continually provides new initiatives to support managers in the circulation of safety messages. For example, a „Hold on a minute!“ sheet is being developed to easily enable every employee to assess the risks before undertaking a task. „Risk is also about routine. We end up doing our work out of habit and we stop paying attention to the potential dangers,“ explains Karin Mistchouk.

SAFETY DAYS

To go further, some sites are holding „Safety Days“ dedicated to raising awareness about occupational risks. All staff take part in various workshops and role-playing exercises („In the victim’s shoes“, „Think before acting“, „Does this look right?“, „Shared vigilance“) to become aware of the consequences of incorrectly assessing risks and the need to never let your guard down.

WHAT NOW?

For Karin Mistchouk, who closely follows the monitoring and performance indicators, particularly the famous FR1 (Frequency Rate of Work-Related Accidents with Absence), „all of these initiatives, inspired by the VITAL project in particular, are beginning to bear fruit“. The stage is already set next year for the second edition of the Safety Awards, which will feature new categories to recognize excellent initiatives and encourage the teams to keep up their efforts and results. Safety at work is everyone’s business, everywhere, all of the time.
