Séché Environnement awarded the Greentech & Energy award at the Sommet des Entreprises de Croissance

The Group’s innovation strategy in the field of the circular economy and energy generation from waste was recognised in the form of the Greentech & Energy award.

From over 200 companies selected by ratings agency Leaders League, journalists from Décideurs magazine and a panel of experts chose the Séché Environnement group as this year’s winner in the Greentech & Energy category.

In addition to the growth in turnover from €440 million in 2015 to €560.5 million in 2018 (rising to €673 million in 2020) , they examined a number of criteria: from profitability and social, societal and environmental responsibility to job creation and innovation.

Circular economy loops: our waste creates value

This award brings recognition of years of effort and innovation. Developing and implementing the best technology to extract energy and high added value materials from our waste is a long-standing commitment of ours.

Séché Environnement develops recycling and re-use loops for rare or high added value materials. Using innovative purification and distillation procedures, the Group regenerates solvents from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. Our engineers have also developed a unique process for recovering bromine as an alternative to extracting bromide salts from the Dead Sea.

Energy generation: turning waste into warm homes

Working closely with local authorities, Séché Environnement has always been a trailblazer in making our waste an energy source for district heating or for agricultural and industrial activities, all with the goal of achieving greater environmental, economic and social performance. Séché Environnement currently generates over 1000Gwh per year, equivalent to the domestic consumption of more than a million people. The Group generates electricity and heat from:

  • SRF (Solid Recovered Fuel), an innovative fuel produced from non-recyclable waste, primarily from waste sorting centres and damaged furniture,
  • biogas from organic matter,
  • waste incineration.

All of these processes enable us to process waste from human activity while avoiding the use of fossil energy sources.
