Building, supporting, structuring : Solène - QSSE Project Manager

We found a message you sent in 2013 on Séché Environnement's Facebook page: "I'd like to get some information on how your structure works (...) and on the missions entrusted to the industrial environmental engineer". Looks like it worked!
During my studies, we had to do a group assignment on the profession of environmental engineer. I chose to study Séché Environnement because of its online visibility, its proximity to the school, but also because several former students worked there.
I even contacted someone from the company via Facebook to get a better understanding of the profession. I was in the middle of a reflection phase. It really helped me at the time... and today, I'm working here!
Why did you go into the environmental professions?
I began my studies by preparing for the medical entrance examination. But I ended up going to the Unilasalle engineering school in Rennes, which specializes in environmental professions. There I discovered a multitude of subjects that really spoke to me. What I liked was the link with concrete, hands-on work. I explored several fields: building thermics, soil science, water treatment... But it was towards QSE management systems (for Quality Safety Environment) that I turned. These are cross-functional tools that concern all departments within a company. It was this global vision that convinced me.
How did the opportunity to join the Group finally come about?
Before joining Séché, I worked in Paris for an engineering consultancy, where I was involved in health and safety issues for various clients. Then I spent a year in the pharmaceutical industry in Châteaubriant, a very hands-on environment that enabled me to develop a more operational approach.
The Séché opportunity came in the form of a long one-and-a-half-year fixed-term contract, perfect for getting to know the group in depth. The recruitment process was fluid and humane, with a rapid return. Right from the start, I was well integrated: a visit to the site in Changé, training courses, exchanges with the team... even though it's spread all over France, we quickly forged links.
What are your missions today?
I'm in charge of Quality Health Safety Environment (QSSE) missions. I support sites on their management systems, develop software modules, and manage a shared documentary library. I also train teams in the tools, remotely or on-site, so that everyone can create and organize their own documentation. This concerns QSSE managers, of course, but also operational, HR, legal or IT departments: anyone who needs to structure and make their documents accessible.
A concrete example? The Document Unique. This is a mandatory analysis of occupational risks for each site. I make sure it's properly filled in, up to date, structured, and shared to guarantee regulatory compliance and prevent workplace accidents.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Diversity. Even though I'm no longer on an industrial site, where health, safety and environmental protection rules have to be applied on a daily basis, I have an overall vision, I work with a variety of profiles, on very concrete subjects such as the Document Unique, the environmental analysis, the Risk Register. I'm constantly learning.
And I also like the fact that I'm helping to structure our department. It's rewarding to help develop the tools and make suggestions. It's a lively job, which keeps me in tune with the needs of the field.
