A historic site

The Séché Environnement Group's story began in the early 1980s in Changé, where the Group opened its first treatment facility in 1985, implementing the world's most cutting-edge techniques, and taking due consideration of biodiversity.

Based in Mayenne, north-western France, the multi-channel environment branch of Séché Éco- Industries has been treating and recovering waste produced by individuals and local authorities (household waste) as well as businesses (industrial waste) for nearly 40 years now.

The Séché Group headquarters opened in 1985 at Changé with the inauguration of the Category 2 Storage Center (non-hazardous waste). It was the first such site in the world to earn ISO 14001 certification in 1996.

Over the years, it has added a hazardous waste storage center (category 1), a polluted soil treatment unit and a biogas cogeneration unit. Moreover, in 2015, it added a new cutting-edge sorting center capable of handling up to 30,000 tons of waste each year, which enables us to respond to and support local authorities choosing to cut the volume of waste they produce and recover waste to reach new packaging recycling targets set nationally (75% in 2020).

The skills and expertise of our employees enable us to meet the expectations of society today by recovering materials that can be reused as part of a circular economy approach and manage non-recyclable waste.

Inauguration of the first SRF thermal power station developed in France

Thursday, October 5, in the presence of many political and economic actors, as well as employees of the Changé site, Joël Séché was proud to inaugurate the first French thermal power station dedicated to the enhancement of SRFs for the production and distribution of heat across a metropolitan area. Since this fall, the City of Laval possesses the very first network powered by fuels produced from previously non-recyclable waste. Nearly 6,400 homes will be supplied with heating. Based on an exemplary approach, this new technology is a response to the objectives set by the Energy Transition for Green Growth Act (ETGGA). It is also a new step in the development model advocated by Séché Environnement since its foundation: providing territories with the necessary tools and solutions to participate in a Circular Economy dynamic while optimizing the use of resources.
